UPDATE: Victim identified in fatal single-car crash in Marion County

MARION COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that happened Thursday night in Marion County.

According to information on the SCHP’s website, the crash happened at 8:10 p.m. on U.S. 76 east of Mullins, near Old Stage Road.

Marion County Coroner Jerry Richardson identified the victim as Gerald Lee Cooper, 34, of Mullins.

Officials said the driver of a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee who was not wearing a seatbelt died after running off the right side of the road, hitting a ditch and overturning.
