NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – North Myrtle Beach firefighters will be visiting local residents to install smoke alarms, perform smoke alarm inspections, and replace batteries for free on Saturday, according to their Facebook post.

This campaign is part of a of a community-wide fire prevention effort. It will also give personnel a chance to reach out to families.

According to the post, installing the fire alarms will increase their odds of surviving a home fire.

“Smoke alarms are the most effective early warning device there is,” says Judy Comoletti, NFPA’s Division Manager for public education. “Just having a smoke alarm in your home cuts your chance of dying in a reported fire in half.”

If anyone calls requesting a smoke detector, the firefighters will visit them also. Contact Greg Frazier at 843-280-5614 for a scheduled home visit.
