Grand Strand, Pee Dee armory rentals to be temporarily stopped

COLUMBIA, SC (WMBF) – The National Guard Bureau Directive mandated that armory rentals to the general public be stopped until the facility meets the new measured standard when tested.

“National Guard Bureau changed the acceptable measurement standard for residual lead that was in compliance with the OSHA standard of 200 micrograms per square foot to 40 micrograms per square foot, which is the EPA and HUD standard,” according to a press release from the South Carolina National Guard.

As of March 2017, 36 South Carolina National Guard Armories are impacted by this directive and are not available for rentals:

  • Sumter
  • Timmonsville
  • Union

    HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Horry County Fire Rescue officials are investigating an overnight fire that damaged eight apartments on Peace Pipe Place in the Forestbrook area. HCFR spokesman Mark Nugent said they received a 911 call at 12:15am Monday, and when units arrived on scene, fire was through the roof of the multi-family dwelling.
