ALDI grocery store in North Myrtle Beach opens Thursday, March 23

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The ALDI grocery store in North Myrtle Beach is officially opening on March 23, and the company is giving away 100 "golden tickets" with ALDI gift cards, and one year's worth of produce to one lucky shopper.

The store is located at 244 Highway 17 North in North Myrtle Beach, and the ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 8:25 a.m. Thursday, according to a news release from the company. Following the ceremony, the first 100 customers will receive a golden ticket, each containing ALDI gift cards of various amounts.

Customers will be able to tour the store, sample ALDI products, and enter an on-site sweepstakes for the chance to win a year's supply of ALDI produce - a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, including several organic items.

"We know North Myrtle Beach residents are looking for a great value and quality groceries they love," said Krysta Cearley, Salisbury division vice president of ALDI. "By offering quality exclusive brand products at affordable prices, ALDI is the answer to customer's needs. Whether shoppers are looking for USDA Choice meats, organic fruits and vegetables or gluten-free options, we have them covered with an unmatched combination of great-quality products and everyday low prices."

The North Myrtle Beach ALDI location offers a new look with a "modern and convenient shopper experience," thanks to input from customers, the release states. There are expanded section for customers' favorite products, a robust produce selection, brighter colors, high ceilings, natural lighting, and environmentally-friendly building materials, such as recycled materials, energy-saving refrigeration and LED lighting.

ALDI states that they offer a wide range of groceries at prices up to 50 percent less than the competitors.

The company saves money by cutting overhead costs with practices such as the cart rental system: shoppers insert a quarter to release a cart from the corral, and receive the quarter back upon the cart's return, the release states.

The North Myrtle Beach store will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

ALDI, which is based in Germany, is currently in the midst of an "accelerated growth plan," the release states, and by the end of next year, there will be over 2,000 ALDI stores serving 45 million customers each month across the United States.

ALDI reopened its expanded location in Florence on February 23, and its other location in August of last year. An opening date for the location on Highway 17 Bypass near the former Wicked Stick golf course has not yet been announced.
