Home deck catches fire in Garden City area

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A home deck caught fire in the Garden City area Thursday afternoon.

The call came into dispatch at about 3 p.m., said Assistant Chief Jerry Howerton with Murrells Inlet Garden City Fire.

The fire is out, and the investigation has begun.

At this time, officials do not know the source of the ignition, and they are trying to determine if the fire started in brush or on the deck, Howerton said, adding that brush was involved, but they do not know how.

No one was at home at the time of the fire, and officials have contacted the homeowner to make them aware, Howerton said. There were two dogs in the home that seemed to be unaware of the fire.

The fire did not impact the inside of the home.
