MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – For those who have driven by three of Myrtle Beach’s entrances or exits, the chances are good their license plates were captured by automated readers.

According to information on the city of Myrtle Beach’s Facebook page, in their first six months, the three automated license plate readers captured approximately 8,145,274 license tags.

The system checked the tag numbers against state and national databases and received alerts on 19,525 of the license plates, indicating that some sort of violation existed for those vehicles, according to information from the city.

Due to the increased volume of information, the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division had to upgrade its computer servers.
