FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A Scranton man was arrested and charged with cocaine distribution following a traffic stop and a brief altercation with law enforcement.
According to a press release from the Florence County Sheriff's Office, Justin Dwayne Barr, 32, was charged on Tuesday with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, trafficking crack, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, resisting arrest/assault on a police officer, unlawful carrying of a pistol, possession of marijuana and possession of a handgun by a prohibited person.
Online records from the Florence County Detention Center indicate Barr remained in jail Friday morning under a $35,000 surety bond.
At 5:13 p.m. on Feb. 28, an FCSO deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of Ron McNair Boulevard and Morris Street in Lake City for a moving violation, according to the release.
When the deputy requested the suspect step out of the vehicle, he allegedly attempted to flee on foot, but was taken into custody a short time later by the deputy after a brief physical altercation.
According to the release, the deputy sustained minor injuries as a result of the altercation.
The suspect was allegedly found to be in possession of a quantity of marijuana, crack and cocaine, as well as an illegal weapon.
