HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Two people escaped a fire at a home in the Socastee area late Thursday night.

Crews from Horry County Fire Rescue and the Myrtle Beach Fire Department were called to the home on Sly Fox Trail before midnight Thursday. Flames were coming from the home when Horry County Fire Rescue arrived at the scene, according to Chief Matthew Smith.

Crews from the county put out the fire fast enough for the crews from Myrtle Beach to be cancelled from responding to the home, said Chief Smith.

Since the home suffered heavy damage, the American Red  Cross is helping the family.

A neighboring house also received minor damage.

Investigators are working to figure out how the fire started.
