HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A family was forced out of their home just before Christmas due to a house fire Wednesday morning, but almost all their pets survived the fire, as well as their Christmas tree and presents.
Horry County Fire Rescue 2nd Battalion units responded to the single family structure fire in the 800 block of Woodwinds Drive after a call came in around 8:45 Wednesday morning, according to a tweet from HCFR.
Battalion Chief Dan Shankle said the fire appeared to have started underneath the modular home and spread to the living room area.
He also mentioned that a family was inside of the home, but nobody was hurt from the incident.
The house is not a total loss, but there is a great deal of damage. The family may be displaced for a couple of weeks, he added.
The daughter of the homeowner said that there were a lot of pets in the home during the time of the fire. There were rabbits, dogs, fish, and turtles, but the fish didn't survive. She said that the home is ruined, but the Christmas tree and presents are still standing.
Investigators are currently at the scene determining the cause of the fire.
