MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – One person was arrested on drug charges during an investigation of shots fired at Broadway at the Beach during the early-morning hours on Sunday.

According to information on the Myrtle Beach Police Department’s website, McKenzie Lee Ann Harley, 21, was charged with simple possession of marijuana.

Her arrest stemmed from the investigation which began at 2:20 a.m., Sunday after officers responded to Broadway at the Beach following at least four different calls of shots fired near Landry’s, according to the incident report.

One of the responding officers reported seeing a group of security guards running after a red Cadillac. Witnesses had seen muzzle flashes coming from inside the vehicle, the report stated.

Police performed a traffic stop, the driver was removed from the vehicle and a safety check of the Cadillac was performed, according to the report. The car was cleared without incident.

Several officers allegedly smelled marijuana coming from inside the car. Police then reportedly found a plastic baggie containing a “green leafy plant-like material.” It tested positive for the presence of THC, the active ingredient found in marijuana, according to the report.

Police questioned the suspect on scene about the shooting. She reportedly told officers she had been talking to two men before the shots were fired.

“She stated when the shooting started, she got scared and tried to leave,” the report stated. “She states she was then stopped by police.”

According to the report, the suspect changed her story and said she didn’t talk to the two men until after the shooting had happened.

A number of witness statements were also obtained from Broadway at the Beach security.
