TIMMONSVILLE, SC (WMBF) – A fire at a vacant school on Orange Street in Timmonsville Friday morning is being considered suspicious.

About 30 firefighters from the Timmonsville, Sardis-Timmonsville, West Florence and Howe Springs fire departments responded to the two-story building after the call came in at about 9:30 a.m., according to Florence Fire Coordinator Sam Brockington.

The fire was in an old classroom at the center of the school, on the first floor, and it spread to the ceiling above the classroom, Brockington said. There were no injuries.

The fire is considered suspicious, and is being investigated by the Timmonsville Police Department, Brockington said.

The fire was contained, and as of 11:30 a.m., firefighters were checking for hot spots, according to Brockington. They were hoping to wrap up soon after.
