HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The South Carolina Forestry Commission is implementing a statewide burn ban beginning Saturday at 6 a.m.

According to the SCFC, the higher winds and lower relative humidities across the state, combined with many of the agency’s resources devoted to the Pinnacle Mountain Fire, prompted the ban.

The statewide ban prohibits outdoor burning, which includes yard debris burning and burning for forestry, wildlife or agricultural purposes.

While campfires and open-fire cooking are not included in the ban, the forestry commission is encouraging residents to refrain from any unnecessary burning.
