Local fire fighters deploy to Party Rock fire

LUMBERTON, NC (WMBF) – Four East Howellsville firefighters were deployed to the town of Lake Lure to assist with the Party Rock fire, according to Fire Chief Steve West.

Approximately 34 to 35K acres are burning, and about 15 percent is contained, according to Chief West.

He said the four firefighters are up there now with an engine. The crew will be staying there for two or three days, and then the next rotation will begin with four other firefighters.

Raft Swamp and Parkton fire crews will also help with the fire. A truck will be going back tomorrow to take resources and crews will be going late Thursday night or early Friday morning. The equipment is expected to be there through thanksgiving.

Chief West says he was on the first deployment with eight others, to protect the town of Chimney Rock on Friday, November 11.
