HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Many across the Grand Strand paused on Friday to remember the sacrifices men and women of the Armed Forces have made during Veterans Day events across the area.
A ceremony was held at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center to honor the sacrifices of the nation's past and present military members.
Also, students in the Academy for Technology and Academics in Horry County held lunch for military veterans.
Further north, a service was held at the North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex to recognize vets. It included the posting of colors by the North Myrtle Beach JROTC and the raising of service flags.
South Carolina Sen. Greg Hembree also spoke, saying everyone needs to remember the sacrifices veterans made.
"It strikes me, from time to time, how quickly Americans can forget," Hembree said. "I've even referred to our country as the United states of Amnesia, because we can let loose of things so quickly. And this can be good and can be important. There are things that need to be left behind so we can move forward, but never, ever, ever should we forget the sacrifices and the contributions of our veterans."
