HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A Surfside Beach man died on October 26 following a traffic accident at the entrance to the Deerfield Links neighborhood on October 20, according to officials.

Roy Pedersen, 77, died at Grand Strand Medical Center, confirmed Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden.

A car being driven by Pedersen was turning left off Highway 17 Bypass into Deerfield Links in front of a northbound sport utility vehicle, and was struck on the passenger side, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Back in June, WMBF News reported on traffic issues around this road when residents complained that a paved connection through nearby offices was closed, forcing residents to turn into and out of the neighborhood without a light. Residents said that making these turns was extremely dangerous and difficult.
