MARION COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A Marion County shelter housing 67 people remains the only one open in South Carolina following Hurricane Matthew and it will stay that way until further notice.

That information comes from Marilyn Matheus, public information director for the South Carolina Department of Social Services.

Previously, it had been announced the shelter would close on Thursday at 3 p.m.

Matheus said the shelter, located at the National Guard Armory in Mullins, is being operated by the S.C. Department of Social Services and the American Red Cross.

After Matthew, the Red Cross opened 95 shelters statewide.
