Coastal picks up the defense

CONWAY, S.C. (WMBF) - Coastal Carolina has been getting defensive in the best way possible this year.

“As a unit we know we have to step up and play our best game every time we step on the field," linebacker Shane Johnson said.

And that’s exactly what the Chants have done.

“We’re not as strong as we were in the past on offense and have a couple guys down. It’s our job to step up every time we step on the field,” Johnson added.

The defense has stepped up to incredible degree. Through seven games this year, Coastal has seven touchdowns on defense or special teams, with two coming last week against Central Connecticut State.

Up next, the Chants take to the road one more time and face Presbyterian. But with the momentum upswing, Coastal just wants to keep its focus and not get tripped up.

“It’s homecoming at (Presbyterian's) place, they certainly saw we were vulnerable in the second half," said head coach Joe Moglia. "This is a game that they think they’ll be able to upset us.”
