HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – WMBF News’ Theo Hayes, Marla Branson and Christel Bell proudly took park in Jumpstart’s Read for the Record campaign Thursday, reading to kids at three local schools.

This morning, children and adults gathered to learn, laugh and read at this year’s campaign book, The Bear Are Your Sandwich by Julia Sarcone-Roach, as part of the world’s largest shared reading experience.

Marla red to kids at Coastal Kids Academy, Christel read at Kiddie Junction Academy, and Theo read at the Carolina Forest Child Development Center & Kids Paradise Child Development Center.

"After visiting areas that were flooded yesterday, I needed this pick-me-up!" Marla said in a Facebook post. "Today is the Read for the Record event. I had a great time reading for 4 year olds at Coastal Kids Academy! They were so much fun and so smart!"

“Read for the Record inspires adults to read with children, spurs policymakers and organizations to take action towards transformative change in early education, and puts books in the hands of more children across the country,” states a news release from Jumpstart, the organization that planned this year’s event.
