NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – One person is dead after a car collided with a motorcycle Thursday night in North Myrtle Beach, according to city spokesperson Pat Dowling.
The crash happened at 6:37 p.m. in the area of U.S. 17 and 13th Avenue North, which is near the North Myrtle Beach Publix store. Horry County Coroner Robert Edge said Raye Farrar, 49, of North Myrtle Beach died at the scene.
When officers arrived at the scene, the motorcycle driver was on the ground, unresponsive. A passerby, a PA at Grand Strand Medical Center, rendered aid until medics arrived. When medics arrived, he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses said a woman, Donelle Spivey, 31, of Charlotte, tried to make a U-turn in her Mazda coupe in front of the motorcycle, causing the crash. Spivey said she was setting her GPS at the time and it told her to make the U-turn. She said the motorcycle tried to pass her and ran off the road.
It was discovered Spivey does not have a valid driver's license or auto insurance. She was charged with DUS, second offense, expired registration and unlawful lane change. She was taken to the North Myrtle Beach Jail, where she is held under a $1,967.50 bond.
An autopsy will be performed Friday to determine the exact cause of death.
