MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Hurricane Matthew slammed South and North Carolina and continues to cause major damage to people’s homes.

The recovery is far from over, but luckily the threat is.

But as the storm developed and its path became more apparent, WMBF News was there to alert you first to the new developments and then to show you live the impact of the hurricane.

In the height of the storm, our team provided coverage for 21 hours straight.

We have received so many emails and messages thanking us for our coverage.

As a local news organization and broadcaster, this is what we do; we provide information. And it means so much to hear from our viewers.

However, so many others deserve thanks as well. The leadership from South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, Horry County leaders, Myrtle Beach leaders, North Myrtle Beach leaders and first responders was exemplary.

Consider This - The constant communication, availability and well-executed plan from everyone got us through the dangerous storm and will get us through the recovery.

Because of this, so many people are now much more prepared and knowledgeable on how to react if another hurricane threatens.
