MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Myrtle Beach officials are reporting test results from the surf at 75th Avenue North are "excellent" following a sewer pump malfunction on Saturday.
According to Myrtle Beach spokesperson Mark Kruea, staff at Coastal Carolina University conducted the water quality sampling on Sunday following the pump station malfunction. Some untreated sewage reached a portion of the beach on Saturday, but not the ocean, he added.
City officials disinfected the beach, posted signs and requested ocean water sampling as a precaution.
"The water quality test showed a reading of less than 10, which is excellent," Kruea said. "Signage has been removed and the beach access at 75th Avenue North has been reopened."
