Teen killed in single-vehicle crash on Highway 701

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A teen was killed in a single-vehicle wreck on Highway 701 near Poplar Church Road on Friday night at approximately 10:30, according to Horry County’s Deputy Coroner Tony Hendrick.

A 2007 Chevy truck was travelling north on Hwy 701 and went off the left side of the roadway. The truck hit a mailbox, came back onto 701, then went off the right side of the road and hit a ditch, according to information from South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Chassidy McDowell, age 17 from Horry County, was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash, says Deputy Coroner Hendrick.

The driver, Dayton Powell of Conway, was taken to a local hospital.

The coroner said Powell and McDowell were not wearing seat belts.

South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating this accident.

    A man stole a housekeeper’s jacket at a Myrtle Beach hotel with reportedly $200 inside before fleeing the scene shirtless, according to a Myrtle Beach Police Department incident report. Police responded to the Bay View Resort at 504 North Ocean Boulevard Monday at approximately 1:20 p.m. in regards to a larceny. The victim reported that a jacket was stolen from the pool area of the hotel.

    A vehicle ran into the side of a home early Wednesday morning, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The incident occurred at approximately 2:38 a.m. Wednesday on Wallingord Circle. A WMBF News crew at the scene reported that at least three Horry Corry Fire trucks and one ambulance were on scene.
