GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – No injuries were reported following an explosion at a Georgetown County substation Wednesday night.
According to public information officer Jackie Broach, the explosion happened at the substation at Saints Delight and Pennyroyal roads in Georgetown when it was re-energized.
Adrel Langley, community relations manager for Santee Cooper, said the Sampit substation was damaged by fire. It is being assessed by company officials.
"As more and more electricity is restored, the public is reminded how dangerous all power lines are," Langley said. "Never assume power lines are not energized."
