CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – The 2017 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament will be held March 1 through 5 at the HTC Center at Coastal Carolina University in Conway.

The ACC announced the tournament location Wednesday morning, saying this will mark the seventh appearance for the tournament in South Carolina since its first five-year run in Rock Hill from 1992 to 1996.

This year’s tournament will feature all 15 league teams. Plan opens with three first-round games on Wednesday, March 1, and concludes with the championship game on Sunday, March 5, according to a news release from the ACC.

The first three days will air on the ACC Network, Saturday afternoon’s semifinal games will air on ESPNU, and the 1 p.m. championship game on Sunday will air on ESPN2, the release states.

The tournament will mark the culmination of a season-long celebration of the event’s 40th anniversary, and will include the unveiling of the All-CC Woman’s Tournament Team from the last 40 years. The team will consist of a five-member first team and a five-member second team.

The tournament was originally scheduled to be played in North Carolina. This was one of the ACC tournaments relocated from North Carolina due to the state’s recently-passed HB2 law. The ACC announced in September they would be pulling tournaments from the state over the controversial law, which requires individuals to use the bathroom corresponding to the gender listed on their birth certificate in government buildings, schools and universities, and initially took away the ability of employees to sue their employers in state court for discrimination or wrongful termination, among other things.
