WACCAMAW, SC (WMBF) – Adam Berry rescued a rooster and six hens from a sealed cage on Monday, October 10 from the Waccamaw River, according to myhorrynews.com.

The birds’ owner evacuated from the Lee’s Landing on Sunday, leaving the chickens sitting in a wire pen above the rising Waccamaw River, the site states.

“They were trapped,” said Berry. “They would have drowned.”

According to the site, Berry and a partner plucked the chickens from a cage, loaded them into a canoe and towed them to higher ground.

Berry initially planned to take the chickens to a grassy area and leave them. He then met with another friend, who stopped him and said that he knew of someone that could take the chickens.

“They was ready to go,” Berry said.
