COLUMBIA, SC (WMBF) – The South Carolina Emergency Management Division is reminding residents to be mindful of possible scams, and to check the identification of Hurricane Matthew relief workers.
Thousands of disaster workers will be coming into the state from all over the country, according to SCEMD, and people affected by Matthew should keep the following in mind:
-Ask for proper identification of service workers.
-Legitimate services workers will never ask for personal information like your bank, social security numbers, or identifying information.
-If you feel unsafe when someone comes on your property, call 911 for assistance from local law enforcement.
Anyone with questions about response and ongoing recovery actions can call the toll-free South Carolina Public Information System at 1-866-246-0133.
