HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Fifty percent of people located within the Zone A evacuation zone remain, in spite of orders for Zone A to evacuate that were issued at noon Thursday, according to a county spokesperson.

Horry County spokeswoman Lisa Bourcier strongly encourages all residents within Zone A to evacuate immediately. The county is pushing out a Code Red alert to encourage those still within the Zone A area to evacuate.

Ninety percent of people in Garden City and the Cherry Grove area have left, Bourcier said.

"We understand the situation before us, and it is not a good one," Gov. Nikki Haley said at a news conference Friday morning. "Please evacuate."
