HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Gov. Nikki Haley announced Wednesday evening that possible evacuations of Zone A in Horry and Georgetown counties ahead of Hurricane Matthew would take place starting at 12 p.m., Thursday.

The governor stressed that is subject to change and further information will be provided at a Thursday press conference at 9:30 a.m.

Following this announcement, a Horry County press release stated the emergency operations center has moved to OPCON 2, which means an evacuation order is imminent.

In Horry County, Zone A includes all areas east of U.S. Business 17, up to the intersection with U.S. 17, and all areas east of U.S. 17 to the northern county line.

The release stated Horry County does not anticipate the need for lane reversals on U.S. 501, but is prepared to implement them if needed.
