List of shelters available after evacuation orders are issued

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Here you can find a list of all shelters that will be available as Hurricane Matthew approaches the Grand Strand. Note that these shelters will open only once a mandatory evacuation order has been issued by the governor. For Horry and Georgetown counties, this may come Thursday morning.

Unless otherwise noted, pets are not allowed at any shelters. For a list of pet-friendly hotels, click here.

Red Cross Shelters in Horry County:

Due to low occupancy, some area shelters are being consolidated, according to Horry County Emergency Management. Residents who need to go to a shelter should go to one of the following seven locations:

Horry County Shelters That Are Open

1. Aynor High School

2. Conway High School

3. Green Sea Floyds Middle and High School

4. Loris High School

5. North Myrtle Beach High

6. Palmetto Bay Elementary School

7. Whittemore Park Middle

Horry County Shelters That Are On Stand-By

1. Aynor Elementary School

2. Aynor Middle School

3. Blackwater Middle School

4. Green Sea Floyds Elementary

5. Loris Elementary School

6. Loris Middle School

7. Pee Dee Elementary

The shelter consolidation will allow for the best possible service to those who evacuate.

Red Cross Shelters in Florence County:

The American Red Cross now plans to open shelters Thursday morning beginning at 7 a.m. and are on standby for possible overflow from Charleston and Beaufort counties.

Shelter locations include:

Hannah-Pamplico Elementary/Middle School - 2131 S. Pamplico Hwy. - Pamplico, SC 29583                                                                                         

Lake City High School - 652 N. Matthews Rd. - Lake City, SC 29560

Timmonsville Educational Center - 304 Kemper St. - Timmonsville, SC 29161                                                                            

Wilson High School - 1411 E. Old Marion Hwy - Florence, SC 2906

South Florence High School - 3200 S. Irby St. - Florence, SC 29505

Red Cross Shelters in Marion County:

The following shelters are scheduled to open Friday at 9 a.m.

Creek Bridge High School - 6641 South Carolina 41 Alternate - Marion, SC 29571

Johnakin Middle School - 601 Gurley St. - Marion, SC 29571

    FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Florence County Emergency Management officials ordered a mandatory evacuation for 1,400 homes along the Lynches River Friday. Zone One (860 homes, 3,010 residents) from the Highway 301 bridge to the Highway 52 bridge was issued a mandatory evacuation Friday morning. Zone Two (540 homes, 1,890 residents) from the Highway 52 bridge to the Highway 378 was issued that afternoon.

    Flooding across the area is causing people to leave their homes behind, wondering when then they can return. People who live in the Brunswick Plantation said during previous storms water never came up to their driveways, but are experiencing a much different story here as more than 3 feet of water is over taking their homes.
