CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - The man charged with brutally murdering an Horry County woman is still in jail.
It has been almost six months since Wanda Wohnig was found stabbed to death outside a laundromat in Socastee. J. P. Marston, who is accused of the crime, was supposed to come and ask for bail. Neither the suspect or his family appeared in court Tuesday. Only the victim's family was there.
Following almost an hour of waiting to hear if their loved one's alleged killer could possibly get out of jail, Marston's attorney asked the judge to withdraw his request.
Wohnig was 65 years old when she was killed inside the Maytag Equipped Laundromat in the Socastee Plaza.
According to the Horry County Police Department, Marston was also charged that day with armed robbery and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
An autopsy revealed Wohnig was stabbed to death.
Wohnig's family says she opened and closed the laundromat for years.
After Marston's attorney asked to withdraw bond, the family said they are happy with the decision but the outcome remains the same; they're left without their mother.
At this time, Marston will remain in jail but later down the line, he could ask for a second bond hearing.
