CCU Releases 2016-2017 Men's Basketball Schedule

CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina men’s basketball program will play 17 home games this season, including nine Sun Belt Conference contests and one game as part of the MGM Grand Main Event Tournament, the Department of Athletics announced today.

Coastal will host Coppin State on Nov. 16 in game two of four as part of the MGM Grand Main Event. The tournament will also have the Chanticleers opening the 2016-17 season at Alabama on Nov. 11, playing at Brigham Young on Nov. 19 and facing Southern Utah at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Nov. 21.

Coastal Carolina’s home opener will be versus region rival College of Charleston on Nov. 14.

After the MGM Grand Main Event, Coastal will host five games in a 12-day span. Chattanooga will start the home stand on Nov. 29, followed by home games versus Methodist (Nov. 30), UNC Asheville (Dec. 3), Piedmont International (Dec. 5) and North Carolina Central (Dec. 10).

The Chants will close out its non-conference portion of the schedule with a trip to Auburn (Dec. 15) and a home contest with in-state foe Wofford (Dec. 19).

Coastal will open its first season in the Sun Belt Conference with road matches at UT Arlington (Dec. 31) and at Texas State (Jan. 2).

Sun Belt home games for the Chanticleers – all played on Saturdays and Mondays –include Arkansas State (Jan. 7), Little Rock (Jan. 9), Appalachian State (Jan. 14), Texas State (Jan. 28), UT Arlington (Jan. 30), Georgia Southern (Feb. 11), Georgia State (Feb. 13), UL Lafayette (Feb. 25) and UL Monroe (Feb. 27).

All Coastal Carolina home Sun Belt Conference games on Saturdays will feature a doubleheader with the Chanticleer women’s program. Both teams will face the same league opponent.

    A 62-year-old man died Thursday from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Homestown Road and Edenborough Drive on January 4. Grady Cobbs Jr., 62 of Myrtle Beach, was transported to Grand Strand Medical Center following the crash.
