HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A consent order issued Friday by the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina issued certain limitations to work being done on International Drive.
According to the order, Horry County is temporarily restricted from performing any more filling, physical work or alteration in any wetland in the project right-of-way which have not been filled as of Friday.
Additionally, the order calls for the ceasing of the removing or clearing of any tree in the project right-of-way that is over 6 inches.
"The county may remove damaged, unhealthy trees if they pose a safety hazard to persons or property," according to the order.
Lastly, the order restricts the performing of any further physical work, alteration, clearing or filling on the Lewis Ocean Bay Preserve side of the project right-of-way.
These restrictions are in place until such time as the court's order is dissolved.
In August, Horry County began work on International Drive despite the Coastal Conservation League's appealing the court's decision to allow the project to move forward.
