WEST FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – A vehicle struck an 18-wheeler, with one vehicle on fire and a person trapped inside, on I-95 just before the US-52 interchange at 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 25, according to Capt. Anthony Fox with the West Florence Fire Department.
FCSO Deputy Tyler Urquhart was on patrol traveling south bound on I-95 when he came up on the incident, according FCSO's press release.
The deputy noticed that the vehicle that ran into the rear of an 18-wheeler trailer.
The driver of the 18-wheeler told the deputy that the female driver was trapped inside of the burning vehicle.
Deputy Urquhart was able to access the driver through the rear passenger door, the release states.
That person was transported by Florence County EMS to a local hospital for treatment.
West Florence and Windy Hill firefighters were able to extinguish the fire from both the vehicle and the 18-wheeler.
"There is no doubt that the quick response and selfless determination of Tyler and William saved this woman's life," Sheriff Kenney Boone stated.
