Florence School District One recognizes its Teacher of the Year

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – Florence School District One started the week off by surprising one of their own by recognizing her as the 2016-2017 Teacher of the Year.

According to a press release, Mary Woodward, who teaches music at North Vista Elementary School, was selected from over 20 applicants in Florence One schools.

Superintendent Dr. Randy Bridges surprised Woodward on Monday with the announcement of her title for the young school year.

Accompanied by an entourage of school personnel and media to North Vista Elementary, Bridges visited Woodward's classroom and presented her with a bouquet of flowers and balloons as her students watched, the release stated.

"My greatest contribution and accomplishment in education is teaching my students that they may be one of many, but they are all unique, talented, courageous, beautiful, loved and valued individuals, and the world could not move forward without them," Woodward said.

Woodward, who has 15 years of teaching experience, has served at North Vista Elementary for the past three years, according to the release. She has also served as a music teacher in the school districts of both Chesterfield and Darlington counties.
