LATTA, SC (WMBF) – The Latta Town Council has scheduled a special meeting for Thursday at 7 p.m., and one of the items on the agenda is a vote on Crystal Moore’s termination.

Moore, the former chief of police for the town of Latta, was fired from her position on Sept. 8 following an executive session of the town council.

In response, Moore’s attorney, Columbia-based M. Malissa Burnette stated in a letter Monday that state law prohibits the council from firing her without taking a public vote in open session.

A strongly-worded rebuke from Latta’s attorney said the town’s administrator does have the sole authority to fire Moore and did not do so in any form of retaliatory nature, but after a series of reprimands in her file and a suspension that failed to improve her attitude.
