FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – A federal correctional officer from Dillon pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court in Florence to bribery charges.
According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney for the District of South Carolina, Angela McLeod, 44, accepted bribes from inmates and their associates while working at the federal correctional institution in Bennettsville between 2013 and 2015.
McLeod accepted bribes and in exchange she brought contraband, specifically tobacco, to the inmates at the institution, the release stated.
The maximum penalty for bribery is 15 years in prison and/or a $250,000 fine.
A sentence will be imposed after the judge has reviewed the report that will be prepared by the U.S. Probation Office, the report stated.
