LITTLE RIVER, SC (WMBF) – A couple from Little River won the $4 Million Mega Millions® Ticket on Monday, September 12 at the Circle K #2720461 located on Hwy. 17, according to a press release from South Carolina Education Lottery.
Stephen Jones Jr. went to buy a Mega Millions® ticket for the previous day's drawing, but it was too late. He went back to the Circle K the next day and purchase the winning ticket for only $2.
Before going to bed, Jones and his wife checked the first five numbers and it matched 1, 34, 43, 44, and 63.
The lucky winner spent the extra $1 for the Megaplier, which means his would be $1 million prize was quadrupled to $4 million with the selection of a "4" multiplier, according to lottery officials.
"We didn't sleep after that," he said.
Jones also said, "We have wanted to start our own business for a while," he said standing with his wife after presenting the winning ticket. "Now we can."
The odds of winning $1 million playing Mega Millions® are about 1 in 18.5 million and the odds of getting a times 4 are 1 in 5, the press release states.
Circle K #2720461 in Little River received a commission of $40,000 for selling the claimed ticket.
The Mega Millions® jackpot for tonight's drawing is an estimated $122 million, according to the press release.
