LATTA, SC (WMBF) - The Dillon County Sheriff's Office confirmed one person was found dead in a vehicle on Main Street in Latta just before 1 a.m. Tuesday.
Coroner Donnie Grimsley identified the victim as 22-year-old H-Keem McClellan, from Dillon County.
Captain Cliff Arnette said they are treating this incident as a homicide investigation, which he believes took place in Dillon County.
Arnette also added there was another person in the vehicle, who drove from the initial scene to Latta when police were called for help. Arnette does not believe the two are related, but just friends. He said the person was driving McClellan to a local hospital for assistance.
Arnette said, "The driver of that vehicle actually saw the officers and then he pulled up to where they were to get assistance and help for the individual. The Sheriff's office and coroner's office was notified right away and of course assisted by Latta police department since it was in their jurisdiction."
This is an on-going investigation. An autopsy of McClellan was sent on Tuesday. The Dillon County Sheriff's Office, and Coroner's office are investigating the homicide, along with assistance from the Department of Natural Resources, Dillon and Latta Police Department.
