FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – A Florence man was arrested by police Thursday after alleging firing a gun within city limits and fleeing from police when they tried to stop him.
According to records from the Florence County Detention Center's website, William John Wilson, 28, was charged with robbery, driving under the influence, failure to stop for a blue light, hit and run, and discharging a firearm.
He remained incarcerated Friday under a $52,000 surety bond.
According to information from Lt. Mike Brandt with the Florence Police Department, officers investigated a gunshot that was heard near Jefferies Creek Park on Wisteria Drive around 11:35 p.m., Wednesday.
Police attempted to perform a traffic stop on a vehicle that had been seen stopped in the road at the park's entrance, Brandt said.
The driver reportedly would not stop and collided with parked vehicles on Woodland Drive. At that point the suspect allegedly tried to flee on foot before being taken into custody, according to information from the FPD.
An outstanding strong-arm robbery warrant was also served on Wilson at the time of his arrest.
