SOCASTEE, SC (WMBF) – A tractor trailer and moped crash that occurred at the intersection of SC 544 and SC 31 leaves one dead, according to Cpl. Sonny Collins with South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The fatal accident occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. The victim was identified as 49-year-old Murrells Inlet resident Robert Phythian by Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler.

According to Cpl. Collins, the moped was traveling west on SC 544. The tractor trailer was making a left turn from SC 544 eastbound to SC 31 northbound. The moped and tractor trailer then collided at the intersection.

SCHP is still investigating this incident.

The MAIT Team also responded to the scene to assist.
