Bojangles’ Southern 500 profiles: Jimmie Johnson

DARLINGTON, SC (WMBF) - The Bojangles' Southern 500 is this Sunday, and WMBF News will be bringing you complete in-depth coverage in the hours leading up to the race during Race Day Live, our exclusive pre-race special.

Learn more about the drivers racing in this year's Bojangles' Southern 500 who are in the Race for the Chase in the Sprint Cup Series.

According to his website, Jimmie Johnson won the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship, giving him the “6pack” he had worked toward since 2010.

Between 2002 and 2012, Johnson recorded 60 wins 166 top fives, 248 top 10 finishes and 29 pole positions, the website stated.

Johnson’s two wins this season happened in the year’s first five races, winning at Atlanta and Fontana.

He is a three-time winner at Darlington Raceway, including the season sweep in 2004. That was the last time the track hosted two races in a single season.
