NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Asbestos will be removed from North Myrtle Beach High school during the night hours.
According to Teal Briton with Sorry County Schools, there is asbestos in the older section of the building that is impacted by the renovation project.
Asbestos were placed in all buildings during the 1970s period, she added.
She also says that the asbestos does not cause any harm because it's not the type that breaks up.
The budget for the $21 million renovation was approved in 2015 and the renovations should take up to 18 months, according to officials.
