DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - There are only six days left until the Bojangels' Southern 500 and there is a lot of activity in Darlington to get ready for the big day.
Grass is being cut and paint is being touched up, just to name a few of the preps underway.
Track officials at Darlington Raceway said they got started about six months ago just getting ready for this weekend.
There are only 14 full-time staffers working at the raceway year round, but right around this time, several hundred are brought in for race prep. Staff said the atmosphere is becoming electrified as anticipation builds for race day.
"It's a very exciting time for Darlington Raceway. To see this facility come alive and be host to one of the greatest and professional sporting events in the state of South Carolina, it's a wonderful thing to see," said Dennis Worden, raceway spokesperson.
Tickets for the grand stand are still available, but as far as bringing in a camper and hanging out in the infield, those tickets are sold out.
Tickets can be picked up online at the raceway's website, or can be purchased the the day of the event. Attendees are reminded that if they come into the track, they can only bring a clear back pack.
However, individuals can bring their own food and drinks into the grand stand. If a person decides to bring a cooler, it must a 14x14x14 soft-sided one.
Parking is free.
"We still have some tickets left in each section of the race track." Worden said. "We want to get on the phone with these people and really educate our guests on what they are looking for and help their experience. We have some really great packages left for the race, and that's what we are focused on at this point."
