DARLINGTON, SC (WMBF) – Dale Earnhardt Jr., will not compete during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at Darlington Raceway on Sept. 4, according to information from Hendrick Motorsports.

Earnhardt, who drives the No. 88. Chevrolet SS for Hendrick, has not been cleared by physicians to compete in races at both Michigan International Speedway and Darlington as he continues to recover from a concussion.

Jeff Gordon will return to the No. 88 team at Darlington, according to Hendrick Motorsports. It will be the fifth race that Gordon participates in place of Earnhardt Jr. this season. He has won at Darlington Raceway seven times, including six wins in the Southern 500 - the most among any driver.
