MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Now that school is back in session, a good, healthy breakfast can sometimes be difficult to achieve when you are trying to juggle dozens of other things during the morning rush.
Still, a busy schedule does not necessary mean unhealthy, as there are some healthy breakfast choices for cheap when you are on the go.
McDonald's egg white delight breakfast sandwich is a recently-added choice to the menu. It is now one of the healthiest options on the menu for $3.19 and it is only 250 calories.
Starbucks customers will enjoy the turkey bacon and egg white sandwich. The restaurant chain said it offers reduced fat turkey bacon, reduced fat white cheddar cheese and cage-free egg whites, served on an organic wheat English muffin. Surprisingly, the sandwich is only 230 calories and costs $3.75.
For $3.75, the turkey, egg and cheese omelet sandwich at Subway packs 350 calories when served on flat bread.
Consumers should also remember there are other specialty restaurants that offer healthy options when you are on the go. Clean Eatz has several breakfast options.
"We have a French toast casserole, we also offer protein pancakes," said Lauren Guest, owner of Clean Eatz. "So basically what's in it is something that is going to stick with you all day. It's a good, healthy carb, your oatmeal, some egg whites, some cinnamon, and then we top it off with a little flavoring for you, maybe a peach, blueberries, coconut or strawberries."
Guest said the meals are available for grab and go, or you can pre-order the pre-packaged meals for the entire week. If ordering for the week, the meals can be kept in the freezer for up to six months.
"You take them out, you stick in the microwave about two to two-and-a-half minutes and you're done. There's no cooking, there's absolutely no dishes and it's healthy for you." she said.
Guest added she sees many parents offer these healthier options to their the kids.
She is also glad to see more fast food restaurants offering healthier options, because no matter how busy the morning rush gets, skipping breakfast should never be an option.
"Breakfast is the most important meal of the day," Guest said. "You need to jump start that metabolism, you need that energy to get you through the whole day."
