ROBESON COUNTY, NC (WMBF) – A man was killed in a fire at a mobile home near Lumberton Monday night, according to East Howellsville Fire Chief Steve West.

Andrew Denish, 73, was killed in the fire at the home in the 400 block of Little Acres Loop, Chief West confirmed.

Firefighters received the call for the fire at about 8:30 p.m. Monday, and responded to find the home about 75 percent involved in fire, Chief West said.

Denish’s brother was outside the home, and had attempted to rescue his brother, but was unable because the fire was too intense, Chief West said.

Firefighters made an attack into the home and found Denish inside, deceased, Chief West said. Firefighters had the fire under control by about 10 p.m. Monday, and were putting out hotspots around the home through Tuesday afternoon.

Chief West said at this point, they are looking at this fire possibly being accidental, and he said it appears the fire originated in the kitchen area.

The American Red Cross is assisted Denish’s brother, Chief West added.
