FMU launches new program to support students

FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Classes got started again for students at Francis Marion University.

Those students are in for a new program that is geared towards their success, no matter what they are studying.

The Center for Academic Success and Advisement is a support center for students.

The school has always offered tutoring, but that new center is putting more focus on helping students succeed.

"It kind of puts them under one roof. There are advisers in there to help students make sure they are on the right path in individual courses and for their entire career plan," Tucker Mitchell, FMU Spokesperson said.

Administration said the new center is all about making sure students are getting the most out of their time and are truly getting what they are paying for.

The hope is that the center will also ensure that college students stay in the school until the completion of their degree.

"There are just some people who just need some extra help to put them over the top so that they can get through some tough courses to begin with. Begin to learn what it takes to be a college student. They then can get a degree and have a meaningful life that we think most of graduates do," Mitchell added.
