SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A runoff election will take place Tuesday in the town of Surfside Beach to fill the unexpired term of Mayor Bob Childs on the town council.

Polls for the special runoff election will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Candidates in the running are Julie Samples and Wanda Spannuth, who received the highest number of votes in the Aug. 9 special election.

The candidate with the highest number of votes will be declared the winner.

Surfside Beach’s municipal election commission will certify the runoff election on Thursday at 10 a.m., in town council chambers.

Childs, who previously served on the town council, was elected mayor in April over incumbent Doug Samples.
