Dillon Police officer resigns after being arrested for DUI

DILLON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A Dillon Police officer was arrested for driving under the influence Wednesday morning after he was apparently found passed out at the wheel of a vehicle parked on a Dillon County road, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Just before 6 a.m. Wednesday, the SCHP got a call about a car in the roadway at Southern Acres Loop Road, according to Corporal Sonny Collins with SCHP.

Troopers and an EMS crew responded and found Tony Cummings unresponsive in the driver's seat of a vehicle parked in the road, Cpl. Collins said. Cummings refused to take a breathalyzer test, but was found to be under the influence. He was taken to the Dillon County Detention Center and charged with DUI. He was later released on bond, a jail official confirmed.

Dillon Police Chief David Lane confirmed that Cummings is a patrol officer with Dillon Police.

On Thursday, the Dillon Police Department announced that Cummings resigned from the department, effective immediately.
