MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A resident caught an alligator soaking up the sun on a beach in Myrtle Beach Monday evening.
Resident Nancy Thompson said she was walking her dogs along the beach at about 6:30 p.m. Monday when she came across a gator coming out of the waves near 43rd Avenue North in Myrtle Beach.
They watched it come out of the ocean and head towards nearby homes, Thompson. That's when they called 911.
Video shot by Thompson shows a police officer and a beach official trying to capture the gator, but they end up chasing it back into the ocean.
This isn't the first gator that's been seen on the beach in the Grand Strand. Image of a huge alligator riding a wave in Murrells Inlet in 2015 gained a lot of attention on social media, and back in 2010, swimmers were briefly cleared out of the ocean after a gator was spotted in North Myrtle Beach.
